Boy George and Culture Club Jiffy Lube Live Review

Boy George and Culture Club brought the intense heat and lightning with them. Oh, yeah, and Berlin and Howard Jones.

It’s been 27 years since I’ve seen Culture Club, and last time they had Howard Jones with them as well. Opening up was Berlin, and if you’re unfamiliar with the band name, everybody knows “Take My Breath Away” from Top Gun. Singer Terri Nunn still looks and sounds amazing. Berlin had to have a shorter set because of severe weather alerts, but the four songs they played set the tone for the night.

Howard Jones was up, and when you think of him, you don’t realize how many songs you actually know from him. Songs like “Like to Get to Know You Well”, “New Song”, and “Things Can Only Get Better”, Howard Jones and his band also played a shorter set, but they still sound amazing.

Boy George and Culture Club veterans Mikey Craig and Roy Hay put on an amazing show; they all look amazing and still sound amazing too. Opening up with a cover of the Rolling Stones “Sympathy for the Devil.”

Culture Club played all the hits like “It’s a Miracle”, “I’ll Yumble 4 Ya”, “Do you really want to hurt me” “Church of the Poison Mind,”, “Time” “Miss Me Blind” and “Karma Chameleon “.

Boy George still sounds so great; it was fun to hear the songs that I grew up listening to, and it just put everyone in the crowd in a great mood. We all forgot about our troubles, worries, and the heat and lightning for a little bit and just sat down or stood up and danced to one of the last great icons of the 80s.

Kerry King 2025

Published

What’s up, my friends and fellow metalheads? Klownz is back for yet another Empire Extreme review comin’ at you from the Fillmore in the heart of Minneapolis. I want to say something before we get into the shenanigans that transpired last night. I was very excited to cover this show and a little nervous, but overall it was AMAZING!

So to start off the show, arriving at the venue, I was taken aback by how much the crowd was much older than I am used to, so that really made me feel right at home. I thought it was awesome to see such dedicated fans of Kerry King. We will get into that in a few, but first I want to draw your attention to the first band on the lineup.

Alien Weaponry! These young gentlemen from the heart of New Zealand did not disappoint at all. This is my first time seeing these guys, and I was so blown away I needed to find my head because it was completely blown off my shoulders. These young rascals did an amazing job, and they really know how to get the crowd eating out of their hands, and I was definitely one of them. I believe this band is the new-aged Sepultura, and I stand by that statement. They played their new single, “Mau Moko,” and ended it with one of my favorites, “Kai Tangata.”. To be honest, I think I pulled a muscle while headbanging!

After that there was a band, and to be honest, I had never heard of Municipal Waste before. I had no idea what to expect, but wow! They were amazing; the lead singer had so much energy I needed a nap after watching him run around. They are a mix between ska, punk, speed metal, and of course, good old 80’s thrash hairband metal. I loved these guys. Their onstage antics definitely kept the crowd enticed and energized for the main event!

The headliner needs no introduction that will do him justice as one of the founding members of the immortal band SLAYER. Kerry King is definitely a force to recon with, playing his signature flying V guitar like the Wylde Warhammer, Kerry King Overlord signature, and the Kerry King Black Satin V. He definitely still shreds. Starting off the show with “Where I Reign,” “Rage Trophies of the Tyrant,” and how could you not play “Repentless,” “Disciple At Dawn They Sleep,” and “Black Magic,” and of course “Raining Blood” and some of Slayer’s greatest songs? They ended the night with “From Hell I Rise.”

So after some much-needed medical attention because my brains were smashed all over the venue, I had to head home and reflect on one hell of a great show. In conclusion, this show will definitely be one of my best memories of all time. I got an opportunity to see one of the greatest guitar players in the HISTORY of thrash metal and one of the founding members of one of the top 10 metal bands of all time, SLAYER!

So folks, there you have it, my interpretation of how to survive Kerry King, and always remember

Keep It Real and Keep It Metal!

A REUNION OF EPIC PROPORTIONS

A Killers’s Confession is on tour right now and doing a huge setlist of songs including a MushroomHead set with JMANN himself together with Waylon. The tour stopped into Baltimore at the Zen West Roadside Cantina.

Aaron from Gemini Syndrome gave us a great solo acoustic set. It was amazing to hear the songs stripped down to just keyboards or an acoustic guitar. You get to hear the raw emotions that came along with the lyrics.

A Killer’s Confession came on stage and got the crowd pumped up for some great metal and music. If you enjoyed the MushroomHead Waylon era you’re gonna dig AKC even more. Waylon’s vocals are amazing and the words and meanings to his lyrics just hit even harder. Waylon blends melodic melodies with an aggressive punch to the gut. The band is just as much fun and amazing as well. I love this version of AKC with the unified outfits  and masks.

Songs like “Voices With”, “Greed”, “Kill or be Killed” and “Angel on the Outside” AKC is such a great band to watch play live.

On this tour called “A horrifying trip back to 2000s” not only did we get 11 songs of AKC but also get 9 songs of MushroomHead as well. Waylon came out and did “Simple Survival” and “Qwerty” then the OG man himself JMann came out and they did songs like “Bwomp”, “Becoming Cold” “Sun doesn’t rise” and “Solitaire/Unraveling”

It was great to see JMann and Waylon together again and to have them both enjoying songs that helped define them.

If you get a chance to check out this tour I urge to go and do it not only do you get those amazing AKC songs but you get those bonus MushroomHead songs as well with JMann and even Stitch and Lil Dan joining the tour as well.
