Interviews
Illusions of Granduer
Lancaster’s Illusion of Grandeur came into the Baltimore area at FishHead Cantina to bring their theatrical style of metal to the masses. Empire Extreme got to sit down and talk to IOG.
EE: How’s it going so far?
IOG: it’s been cold. It’s the when they were cold tour. This is the last night of a 12 run tour. It’s been a good tour, every venue has been cold. We hit some bad weather at the Baltimore show at Zen West. They had to cancel of if the shows in Virginia.
EE: How’s the fan and crowds been for the tour?
IOG: it’s been good, some shows you’re not going to have a huge crowd but we have sold a lot more merch then we expected to.
EE: How was going through the Covid years as as a band?
IOG: We were very fortunate to have a in home studio that we could work on with the time off from touring and we could do videos for every song and have a setup for making those. We missed playing live, we had a European tour that got cancelled.
EE: For somebody that doesn’t know the band how would you explain the music and lyrics?
IOG: The lyrics are based or Greek and Norse mythology mixed in with personal stuff, but I didn’t want people to have to read a book to understand them. I’m a huge fan of In this Moment and Korn. Musically it’s a lot of mix of old school bands like Metallica and Exodus. We try to change things up and not be too typical with it.
EE: You mentioned playing Europe, do you have a big fan base there?
IOG: Yes, this has been the first year that we have caught on in America. We went to Europe and fans are singing my lyrics and don’t even speak my language, they embraced us right away. We got invited to do some shows and we ended up walking into packed houses and really loved our whole concept. We are going back to the Ukraine in July(I hope). Then maybe some dates in September back in the states.
EE: Anything you want to say for the fans?
IOG: Thanks for all the support and love. Keep checking out all the info on our website at iogmusic.com
Illusions of Granduer had a killer set, this being my first time seeing them live, I was hooked right from the start. With bad ass songs backed up by a kick ass band all centered around amazing vocals, this band is one to go see. I’m looking forward to seeing them in the future and watching them just get bigger and better.
