Interview with Acey Slade

Empire Extreme got sit down and talk to Acey Slade Of Dope, while he was in Reading PA for the Static X Tour.

EE: How’s it going so far?

Acey: The turn out has been amazing and insane. It’s crazy that tours like this we did 20 years ago. Usually with us being 3rd on a 5 band bill, is most fans would just be coming in, but on this tour people have been coming early and seeing Dope, and asking us if we are back together, and we are like we never went away.

EE: Right before you jumped into this tour, you did a show in Los Angeles with the Misfits, how was that?

Acey: It was so amazing and sick, we got August 17th in Vegas and 3 shows in September. I think that last show was the best one.

EE: You also got to work with Joan Jett, how was that?

Acey: It was different, I’m always very grateful for that experience, With Joan and the Misfits they came out around the same time, and with the Misfits they are all my friends who would do anything for me, with Joan it was like working with a pop artist, not that she carried herself that way but the way it was set up.

EE: How was it like doing the Macy’s Day Parade with Joan?

Acey: That was crazy. It was kind of like doing a big music festival. When it started off it’s like oh my god so many people, they are hanging from buildings and waving banners and you’re like “wow” then after another block or so your arm is getting tired from waving. Then the next block you’re freezing, then the next block you’re like how many more blocks are there.

EE: So with Dope, you’ve been there since the beginning and the first album, how has that been working with Edsel and the gang and doing the reunion tour?

Acey: It was a little weird because we all have worked with each other periodically over the years, so it wasn’t like I haven’t seen you in many years, and to be honest this tour feels more that way because I haven’t seen Static X guys in like 15 years. This tour has been more nostalgic.

EE: I know you’re getting into the coffee scene with your DeadSled Coffee, what got you into that?

Acey: I’ve always been a huge coffee fan, even when I was a kid I was drinking espresso, and sorta like how people are with MicroBrewery, Wines and Hot Sauces coffee has that same thing. I did a lot of coffee journaling, and when I was playing with Joan I had free time and I would go and check out the coffee shops, because that’s where all the cool thrift shops and vinyl stores are, then my friend called me up and said she wanted to sell coffee out of a Hearse, that’s the coolest idea Ever. But a hearse is a less than ideal vehicle to turn into a coffee shop. So we started thinking of ways to, and started making our own coffee beans and coffee.

It was awesome to get to sit down and talk to Acey, he’s such a down to earth and cool guy. Before we met up with him me and my buddy went to Cracker Barrel before the show about 45 minutes away from the venue and just happened to be seated in the section of a waitress who’s friends with Acey and his family. It was some cosmic intervention. Dope put on a hell of a show as they always do, and it’s great to see Acey Killing it stage. Check out his coffee at DeadSledCoffee and check out Dope on tour with Static X.
