Interview with Bobbie Brown
Throughout my career at Empire Extreme I’ve got to interview a lot of killer musicians, but haven’t got to interview anyone from around the scene. Until Now.
I got to have a great phone conversation with the iconic and gorgeous Bobbie Brown who busted into the scene being in Warrants Cherry Pie Video, but is still making a good name for herself doing so many different and talented things. She will be on site and meeting the fans at the HeadBangers Con in Portland Nov 10th and 11th.
EE: Are you excited about the HeadBangers Con?
BB: Yeah I think it should be fun. I know they tried to do one here in LA once and it was crickets but this one looks like it’s gonna go well. They have a very good line up.
EE: What was it like doing the Cherry Pie video?
BB: it was great, back then it was fine. It was a 3 day shoot, the director was kind of a dick but I got paid well and the video blew up obviously. The rest is history.
EE: Yeah it’s got to be up there as one of the most iconic videos of all time.
BB: it’s so crazy how that worked out, right? I remember seeing it the first time and going wow, I’m in it more or equally than the band is.
EE: You also did the video for Great White’s Once Bitten Twice Shy Video
BB: Yeah, I think I might have done that video first.
EE: More recently I seen that you did the video with Steel Panther
BB: Yeah those guys were so fun. They were so great and down to earth. Super professional and kept asking me if I was good or doing alright or if this is ok. I told them I do stand up comedy that’s raunchy so I’m good.
EE: You’re doing Stand Up, how’s that been going?
BB: I just started doing it the year, I’ve got about six shows on my belt now. It’s been going well. I’ve opened up for Jamie Kennedy twice and I’ve headlined. I’m headlining my shows in Louisiana in December. And I might be opening up a club in Oregon but it’s still in talks now.
EE: How’s the crowd been for those shows?
BB: it’s been good. I took a few classes before doing them and like the second day the instructor said you’re ready and I’m like are you kidding me. It’s one of the most horrifying thing to do, it’s so different to intentionally make people laugh. The first two times I blacked out during the set, but everyone came up to me and said I was great and I was like thanks I wish I would remember it (laughs)
EE: Are you planning on doing any touring with that?
BB: I would love to, but I don’t have an agent I’ve been booking my own gigs.
EE: Do you think it was easier or harder because of who you are?
BB: it’s harder and easier at the same time. I think it’s a little easier because I don’t suck. Maybe to begin with people were hesitant but once they see my performance they know it’s good.
EE: You also wrote a book Dirty Rocker Boys
BB: yes, and I just signed to do my second book which will be released by 2019.
EE: How was the response to the book?
BB: it was a best seller and is still selling. So I’m doing the sequel called Cherry on Top.
EE: Do you enjoy writing and doing that kind of stuff?
BB: I love it, it’s such a fun process and even loved doing the audio book. I’m working with the same ghost writer and she gets me. This book is going to a lot funnier and about catching up and stuff within my life now and stuff to do and not to do in life.
EE: How was it like working with Vanilla Ice on the Cool as Ice movie ?
BB: (laughs) oh god that was fun. I like him and think he’s talented but that persona of him was so cheesy and blew up like a Justin Bieber of his time. I remembering walking onto the set and ice saying “ yo yo yo what’s up?” And I was like oh wow. It was all fine.
EE: How was it like working on Married with Children?
BB: it was great, Ed and Katey were wonderful. Christina was the only one who snubbed me at first but I ended up doing like 4 episodes I think, she ended up being cool.
EE: Do you think she snubbed you because of being jealous and how she’s portrayed on the show.
BB: Yeah, probably. We had similar looks and her whole style on the show was like cherry pie. It might have been a competitive thing.
EE: Do you ever keep in contact with anyone you worked with back then?
BB: Nope, never. Nobody was ever that cool. It’s Hollywood. I’m from Louisiana so I’m not Hollywood at all, I’m always the odd one out. It was normal how I behaved because I was to warming and inviting.
EE: Were you always big into music and the scene?
BB: I was never huge into it, I didn’t have all the posters on my wall but I got a good ear for music and what will be a hit single. I just booked doing a radio show a rock radio show playing new music from breaking new bands that haven’t been picked up yet. I had an interview and they said that I should try doing radio and he had a network and would love for me to try it. I brought my friend Sharise Neil in on the deal with me. It’s on Rock Radio Worldwide , I have to think of a name for my show. It’s going to be on once a week and we talk and do interviews and go to shows and interview bands. So that will be a cool adventure.
