Interview with Dog Fashion Disco
DOG FASHION DISCO SLAYS BALTIMORE WITH THEIR MUSIC AND ENERGY
Dog Fashion Disco or DFD, played a 2 night extravaganza of music, Night one was Polkadot Cadaver and Night two was DFD. Empire Extreme got to come down to the Ottobar on day 2 and talk to Singer Todd Smith, Bassist Brian “Wendy” White and Keyboardist Tim Swanson about the show and career.
EE: So for people who haven’t heard of you, how would you describe your music?
Todd: I think the Mushroom Cult is going with weird shit with horns. I would say heavier experimental. It’s all over the place.
EE: So you guys just released the re-releasing of Anarchists of Good Taste.
Todd: Yeah we were trying to reach out to Spitfire Records to get the rights back to it, but they have changed ownership over the years and our re-record clause was up, so we thought to just re-record it, make it our own.
Brian: I think it was the best thing. I grew up listening to all that stuff before I was in the band. Todd is an old friend of mine. Those songs were genius and couldn’t stop listening to it. The quality now is so much better.
Todd: Those old recordings we did for $1,000 and a bag of weed back in the mid 90’s. It was dirt weed (laughs)
EE: Any plans on making a new album?
Todd: We are Re-Recording Committed To a Bright Future, which was our second album done with SpitFire. That will be out probably in June, and we are writing a new album which will be out sometime next fall. We don’t tour much, and no managers telling us what to do, we do whatever the fuck we want. We all have day jobs. In my 20’s I was like Tour,Tour,Tour,Drunk,Drunk,Drunk, Pussy,Pussy,Pussy (laughs) and now I’m like Home in my Bed. We are able to get together and we have a nice cult following. We announce a show in Chicago or Atlanta and everyone shows up and has a great fucking time.
EE: How was the turn out for the London Shows?
Todd: Awesome both nights, packed houses.
Tim: There were a lot of fans that have seen us before and a bunch that were new to the live show.
EE: What band would get you excited to see reunite?
Todd: I think it would be cool to see Zeppelin play, you could have Jason Bonham play the drums again.
EE: I always ask with that question, who would you bring back from the dead?
Tim: I would like to see what Zappa would do in this climate.
Todd: It would be interesting to see what Kurt Cobain would be doing.
