COMEDY AND ROCK N ROLL GO TOGETHER LIKE AQUA NET AND 80s METAL

Comedian extraordinaire and metal guru Don Jamieson rolled into Baltimore with Pop Evil to do a little light comedy for the masses of rock fans who don’t care about political correctness. Before Don hit the stage Empire Extreme got to sit down with That Metal Show guy who had the sideburns and shoot the shit.

EE: How’s the tour been going so far with guys?

Don: and Lady (Laughs) It’s going very well man, I’ve been friends with Matt for a while but hanging out with them has been way much cooler than I expected. Everyone has been so friendly, we are having fun and playing a lot of chess. Matt is a big Chess player and we’ve been playing.

EE: The big news recently was the reunion of That Metal Show At EpicCenter Festival, you excited about that?

Don: Yeah I wish we were filming it to put on tv, but whenever I can get together with my buds it’s great, we’re still best friends, and the line up is insane for that festival.

EE: Who was your favorite guest to have on the show?

Don: You know for making a tv show you love the guys who are very outspoken like Ted Nugent, Phil Anselmo, Dave Mustaine, those guys speak their minds and give no F’s about if you hate it love them. But personally having Alice Cooper on was amazing and Brian Johnson and Mick Mars who was great. Having Heart on the show that blew me away.

EE: Who was the biggest pain in the ass?

Don: Everyone knows it’s Marilyn Manson, when you show up to the set at 11am drunk off absinthe you know it’s going to be fun. I’d rather have him that way then shiny and happy Manson on.

EE: Doing this for as long as you have, is there a musician you haven’t met that you would like to?

Don: I never got to meet Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy, he died while I was in college. I think I’ve pretty much met everybody I wanted to meet. I’ve been lucky.

EE: Who were you most nervous to meet?

Don: Lemmy, he’s my idol. I didn’t care if he knew me I just didn’t want to do or say anything that he wouldn’t like me.

EE: I remember the show Apt2F that you help do and how many great actors came out from that

Don: You’re the only person other than me who know what apt2f is (Laughs) it was a sitcom that I help create with MTV and it was a breeding ground for people who became huge after like Amy Poehler, Zach Galifianakis, Stephen Colbert was a regular on it. They were young comics coming up and trying to make it. It lasted 2 seasons.

EE: Do you have a lot of people that didn’t know you was a stand up comic that just knew you from That Metal Show?

Don: Yeah That happens a lot, we saw your name in the paper and was like hey we didn’t know you was a comedian.

EE: You got to work with Andrew Dice Clay

Don: I toured with him and just did some show with him before I came out on the road here. I’ve been working with him the last 10-12 years.

EE: How was that, he’s one of my favorite comics?

Don: Yeah he’s my comedy idol. That fact he let me open for him once is incredible, but he’s taking me all over North America, and he has become a close friend.

EE: What band would you like to see Reunite?

Don: Oh boy that’s a tough one. The one that everybody wants is the Eat Em and Smile band with David Lee Roth, Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan and Greg Bissonette. It’s almost happened one time in LA, they didn’t even announce it with Dave they did with Michael Starr from Steel Panther singing but David was in the backstage but it sold out instantly and the fire marshal had to shut it down.

EE: If you could bring back one dead musician, who would it be?

Don: It would be Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy. I go to Dublin pretty much every year and visit the grave, visit the statue and go sit with his mom. She tells me stories, his mom has given me stuff of his. Shows me his record collection and let’s me try his hats on.

Don put on a hell of a show, not only is he funny but he’s such a like-able guy. The set was great, I wish it could have gone on for even longer. I love the fact that at a metal show we can be entertained in so many different ways. Don is a master at telling stories and making the crowd laugh and interacting with them as well. I hope to get to see Don again in the future.
