Interview with Doyle Von Frankenstein and Alex Story of Doyle
THE VEGAN MONSTER AND THE WEREWOLF STORM INTO BALTIMORE TO KICK SOME ASS.
That’s right the vegan monster Doyle Von Frankenstein rolled into Baltimore once again with his band Doyle. Last time Doyle was in town they had to reschedule because of an emergency eye surgery. Empire Extreme got to sit down and talk to Doyle and Alex Story about that among other things.
EE: How are you feeling since the eye surgery?
DF: well they fixed what was wrong but it’s going blind. I got to get it fixed, they need to put a new lens in. I just have to the time and the money to do it. Yeah it’s getting worse everyday starting to turn hazy and pink.
EE: How did you guy end up hooking up together?
DF: uhh Tinder (laughs)
AS: it was on Grindr. It was like Male hairy Dom, looking for uhh. I don’t remember really.
EE: How’s it like working with an icon like Doyle?
AS: (laughs) it’s an icon with an eye gone, like working with Cyclops from Ancient Greece and if you remember that your brain is working better than me.
EE: How do you think the horror punk scene is now compared to 30 some years ago?
(Wolfman laughs hysterically)
DF: I hate horror punk. Every band that does it is imitating the Misfits and they all suck at it.
AS: It’s like Misfits imitation done badly.
DF: it’s like rockabilly or something lame. It just sucks. I like brutal stuff and good music.
AS: My two favorite things growing up was punk rock and horror movies and you think when you put that together it would be awesome like The Misfits, The Cramps, The Damned but all these Chubby guys dressed like Skeletons going “huh Huh huh” like Elvis but shit. They are playing four chords and singing about goosebumps shit, sounds like bad nursery rhymes, they can all suck my dick. (Laughs)
EE: What was the idea of making the signature guitar?
DF: To play the mother fucker what else would you make a guitar for (laughs)
EE: Are you guys working on the follow-up to Doyle 2 album?
DF: Yeah it’s called Doyle 3. Think about it Led Zeppelin 3, Kiss Alive 3.
EE: What’s been your favorite band to tour with?
DF: As far as playing with Doyle, we haven’t seen most of the bands that we play with. We played with Gwar and that was cool. But back in the day it was Anthrax, Life of Agony and Cannibal Corpse.
EE: With all the bands reuniting, is there a band you like to see reunite?
DF: The Misfits (laughs)
AS: That’s a good one, I can get behind that. We went and seen that Freddie Mercury movie it be cool to have some stems cells and bring him back. (Laughs)
DF: He would be so fabulous if he came back now. He would be I’m home again.
Doyle killed it on the stage. You know that Doyle and him being with The Misfits is the factor that draws the crowd, but this band stands alone. Alex is a wild man on stage running around and jumping on speakers and just the intensity of how he sings the songs and gets into the moment. He’s a force to be reckoned with. Doyle with his white makeup, abominator guitar, the hair lock and his physique is just in awe of how much he still continues to kick ass. This was my first time seeing the band live and they just nailed it. I couldn’t get enough of it, so much fun. I can’t wait till they come back around again.
