Interview with Elias of NonPoint

Empire Extreme got to talk to NonPoint’s Elias about life within a pandemic and what a band should be doing during this time of uncertainty.

EE: You guys released a song and video called “Remember Me” which was for all the essential workers out there working during this pandemic. It was a truly beautiful song and hits home because I’ve been working during this pandemic.

Elias: Yeah people don’t think but it’s different for doctors and military and police men, but when you’re providing a service to literally keep people alive and surviving. Everyone needs to realize this doesn’t work with it all of us being together and being thankful for a lot of people who are risking their lives and the safety of their families for this pandemic. The humblest way to say thank you was to use our platform the way that we can.

EE: You guys are running a Poll on your Facebook about doing a cover and having the fans choose songs versus songs to narrow it down to one winner.

Elias: Yeah it’s a bracket of 16 songs that we are allowing the fans to choose which cover song will be our next. We have asked for years about what should be our next cover and our list was too many so we decided to let the fans choose.

EE: Yeah I love it and love the songs, my only issue is that some people are picking what the favorite song and artist instead of who would NonPoint sound killer doing. I’m hoping for The Fugees “ Ready or Not” or Stevie Nicks “ Edge of Seventeen” I feel that your voice would be killer on those and I love when men cover female songs and vice versa.

Elias: Yes those are my favorites as well. The reason some want Dmx, is they seen our live show and the energy of that song and they see that song exploding. But the lucky thing is we are not stopping anytime soon so we can always do other covers.

EE: Last time I talked to you the Poison Red album came out and now you released the X album, hows the response been from that?

Elias: It was outstanding, and elevated our awareness for the younger crowd.

EE: Also last time we talked you said you were listening to Lil Dicky and now he’s blown up and has his own show, who you listening to now?

Elias: let me think about that for a second. Because I’m off and home I’ve been listening to a lot of old school Dj sets from a guy called 9th Wonder. He does a lot of producing and works with the biggest names in hip hop and he does a live dj stream. I’m really into old school 90s jams right now.

EE: Hows it been more being on tour during this pandemic because you guys are like a nonstop touring band?

Elias: I love it. I love being able to hang out with my family. We just went camping a few days ago. I very rarely get to have this much time with them so I’m counting my blessings.

Since the interview the poll has reached the final two. This Tuesday fans will be able to vote for Prince’s “When Doves Cry” or Metallica’s “ Nothing Else Matters”. While me and Elias was hoping for Stevie Nicks this should be a good battle with my vote of Prince on top. Go on NonPoint’s Facebook page on 8/4 and cast your vote.
