Interview with Jasio Kulakowski Of Kobra and the Lotus
Kobra and the Lotus the Powerhouse from Canada, came into Baltimore touring with Texas Hippie Coalition.
Before they hit the stage, Empire Extreme got to sit down and talk to guitarist Jasio Kulakowski.
Empire: You just released the new album Prevail II, How’s this different from part 1?
Jasio: It’s been nice since we have been sitting on it for 2 years, we recorded it at the same time as the last album, we just decided to split it, the fans response has been amazing so far.
EE: How was it like touring with KISS?
J: Dude that was sort of a surreal experience, something I’m afraid of as a dying breed. Rock bands are so big anymore at the area level, a lot of older guys are dying or retiring and nobody is replacing them in that way. I’m super grateful to have seen it with my own eyes, I have great worry that something in the same way won’t be in the future.
EE: Who got you into wanting to make music?
J: Honestly I remember my parents bringing around toys to play and I took to them immediately and wanted to hit them. They notice that and put more instruments in front of me and when I was 5 my mom put my into piano and did that for 10 years before I even picked up a guitar. I didn’t listen to rock music till I was a teenager. I was never exposed to it in my house, I had 3 sisters who were into pop music. My mom was more into classical and opera. Eventually I got sick of it and wanted to rebel, I said I want a guitar, I saw an Iron Maiden video and that was the shit.
EE: Being from Canada, who you like for hockey?
J: I actually don’t give a shit anymore, I use to play hockey and I actually like the game of hockey and the NHL with all the politics have pushed me away.
EE: Any new bands you been digging lately?
J: I like those Leopards guys, someone put me on to them, anything Devin Townsend makes I’ll listen to, that guy is a mad genius when it comes to music, and a super creator. I’m curious what’s going to be the next hit on top 40, on rock radio or hip hop or whatever.
EE: What Dead Musician would you bring back?
J: I would have loved to seen Prince or Micheal Jackson. I don’t think Dimebag deserved to go.
Kobra and the Lotus hit the stage and demanded your attention. I’m not just saying that because Singer Kobra was on stage in a full vinyl body suit, but because infused with her angelic voice are excellent musicians that kill it day in a day out. This was my first time seeing the band and was impressed. Can’t wait to see them again and talk to the band once again.
