Coming out of Athens Georgia, Lullwater is a band that combines 90’s Seattle Grunge with New Southern kick ass rock n roll.

Lullwater is on tour now with Sevendust and Tremonti, Empire Extreme got to talk to singer/guitarist John Strickland before the show.

EE: Hows the tour going so far?

JS: It’s going great man, we got to meet those guys and super gracious and helping us out as much as they can. We are about 3 weeks out and everything is going good.

EE: Hows the turn out for fans since you guys are on a little earlier?

JS: Yeah. Sevendust and Tremonti have some die hard fans and they come out early to check out the clinics and the meet and greets. So they are in full force when we play. Our crowds have been solid.

EE: You guys have the new album coming out on February 22nd, you excited about that?

JS: Yeah, Voodoo has been on ice for about a year now, we were patient and was waiting til we had the right team for the record and we do now. We are ready to get it out.

EE: Is it different from previous albums?

JS: It’s a little more produced. We were able to add strings and keys and horns, because we were in New Orleans for a month. We wanted to use that environment and that sound to mix with our hard rock vibe. It’s different but it’s Lullwater.

EE: You guys are from Athens Georgia and there has been so many great musicians that have came out of that area.

JS: Yeah everyone thinks of REM and Driveby Truckers, but it’s a cool music town. It’s small but we all know each other and help each other out. It’s a cool spot.

EE: Is it competitive?

JS: Not for us, the vibe in Athens is very much a community. I don’t think there much competition. The business is hard enough on its own.

EE: If you had a chance to do a dream tour, if you could pick 2 other band who would it be?

JS: Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam, and Foo Fighters If I can pick a third one. That would be the pinnacle for me, I’m a massive Pearl Jam fan and the Seattle 90s scene. There’s a few bands that were excited about possibly touring with BlackTop Mojo.

EE: If you could bring back one dead musician, who would it be?

JS: Kurt Cobain. If I could see Nirvana reunite and Kurt coming back would be amazing.

Lullwater put on a hell of a show. This was my first time seeing them live, and I’m now a huge fan of them and can’t wait to see them more in the future. With amazing rock songs with that great vocal sound, Lullwater is a band that will be huge and deserves to be. This band has it all, and is going to have great future. Go out and check out the new album Voodoo, it’s a great album and deserves a listen to.
