Interview with Kat Von D
Happy Valentines Day from Empire Extreme and for that sweet treat, we got to talk to the one and only Kat Von D about her new album and debut tour.
EE: Are you excited about doing this debut tour?
KVD: Yeah it’s very exciting I haven’t been back to a lot of these cities in a long time. It will be cool to play for everybody and I’m excited for the meet n greets to connect with my fans.
EE: What can fans expect from the show that haven’t seen you before?
KVD: We had a warm up tour in the west coast, one of my favorite thing doing was with the visuals we built little imagery on led screens that we did and we also have a contortionist Brynn Route who will be on the stage performing during our songs. We are a performance not just a band that sits still.
EE: I know that Sammi Doll is playing with you as well, we did an interview with her a couple years ago, she’s always been amazing
KVD: I met her on tour with IAMX, they invited me on a few tour dates and I played her one of my demos for “Exorcism” and she loved it. She was my first band mate.
EE: You had the full length album “ Love Mad me do it” come out and today is Valentine’s Day.
KVD: yea I love that, it’s great most people know me from the tattoo world but I’ve been playing piano since I was 5, music has always been in my life and creativity. I love writing songs and being able to connect to my fans. I’m getting the word out that I’m making music and getting excited about that.
EE: Was there always a certain direction you wanted to go with the sound and feel of the music?
KVD: We try not to sound like others, but I love bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode , but I’m a huge fan of analog synthesizers of the 80s. It’s about creating our own sound as well.
EE: Do you have a favorite song on the album?
KVD: I wrote all the songs and they all have a special meaning to me. I’ve always love playing “Fear You” live, it’s a fun one for the fans to sing along to.
EE: You also just released a new cover of Selena’s Fotos y Recuerdos, how was it like doing that song?
KVD: Ya she’s always been a huge part of my life growing up, her cross over album was a big part of my transition into this country moving from Mexico and not knowing the language and it’s a bi-lingual album and was always in rotation in my house.
EE: I seen on the tour package that the band Prayers is playing with you, which has your husband in it
KVD: I’m so excited to go tour with him, he’s such an amazing performer and we have a 3yr old son also, so we want to take him on the road with us, so it’s the perfect family tour. I can hold the baby while he’s on stage and he can do the same while I’m on stage. I was a huge fan of his before we got together and now I’m a bigger one. He’s got a new album as well that he will be doing on tour.
Kat Von D will be hitting Baltimore on March 4th but you can also check her out other stops on the tour on http://Katvond.com for tickets and VIP Meet and Greets and pick up her new album “Love Made Me Do It”
