L.A.’s Darkwave Synth Pop sensation Night Club came into Baltimore with fellow band mates CombiChrist, Wednesday 13, Prison And Death Valley High. Empire Extreme got to talk to the Electronic duo Mark Brooks and Emily Kavanaugh before they took the stage this night.

Empire: How’s the tour going so far?

Mark: It’s going good, as of now we are about halfway done with the tour.

Emily: Yeah we’re about 3 weeks in now.

Mark: It’s been super fun, everything is going well as I knock on something.

Empire: How’s the crowd response been?

Mark: At first we were afraid the crowd wouldn’t like us because we are straight up Electronic band, no guitars no drums. To our surprise that hasn’t been the issue at all. I think that we are just heavy enough and dark enough for them. It usually takes a song or two and then they get into it.

Empire: Have you always wanted to be just a two piece, no live drums or anything?

Emily: Well our friend Joe of CombiChrist hops on drums for one song with us. At the core we are a duo but we’re not opposed to it.

Mark: We always consider ourself songwriters more than a band, that’s kind of what our main goal is, but over the last years we have grown into a pretty good live band.

Empire: Do you guys enjoy doing the more theatrical style music videos?

Emily: Yeah it just comes natural for mark, he’s a director, good concepts for videos.

Mark: Yeah I’ve made other videos for bands like Slayer, The Melvin’s and I directed Metalapocalypse. Then when we stared this band we said you got to have videos, I just think visually. I like to have concepts and how each video is always different from the others.

Empire: With all the band reuniting, who would you like to see?

Mark: It’s weird, I generally don’t enjoy bands reuniting. It never really feels the same. I like to catch them when they start. The Police were good when they reunited, but still.

Empire: If you could bring back one dead musician who would you bring back?

Mark: I can think of one, Kurt Cobain. I would be interested to see where he would have gone. You couldn’t have predicted on how he’s music would have went. He would be an interesting guy.

Empire: Yeah I always say Jim Morrison because he was so ahead of his time.

Mark: Yeah there was an interview with him one time in like around ’69-’71. It was kind of chubby Jim with weird crazy black shades, he’s talking about the future of music and he said he thinks it’s all going to be Electronic, the guy looked confused because back then it didn’t exist, and Jim said that people will just use computers to make music. And they people looked at him crazy.

Empire: Yep, fast forwarded a few decades now it’s almost all computers.

Mark: Yep, exactly

Night Club hit the stage and with his DJ station all lit up with florescent lights, set the tone for the show. Emily was all over the stage like a crazy cheerleader of sorts, always jumping and moving around, during parts of the set would come out to the crowd and sing face to face. This was my first time seeing Night Club and I truly enjoyed it, I’ve always liked the Electronic side of music, the crowd was loving it as well, the only negative was that nexus’s of the nature of the other bands they wished they had a drummer on stage all the time, everyone loved when Joe Letz came out for Bad Girl. Overall I loved the set, and can’t wait to see what the band is doing in the future. I know that while talking the said they have the new album Scary World that will be released on August 24th.
