PSYCLON NINE COMES TO BALTIMORE BRINGING CHAOS AND BEAUTY

Psyclon Nine just released their latest album Icon of the Adversary. The album is much darker and heavier than previous albums. Empire Extreme got to sit down and talk to Singer Nero Bellum about the album and about life in Psyclon Nine.

EE: How’s the tour being going so far this cycle around?

Nero: It’s been great to play with our friends MXMS again, also with The Guidance and StripLicker.  Psyclon has a new lineup of band members.

EE: You just released the new album Icon of the Adversary recently, how’s the response been from that?

Nero: The album seems to have a bit of a split. I feel like all of our albums have done that. We started off as one sound and each album evolved into something else. Some people still don’t get it that it’s not going to sound like the last album.

EE: Do you think it’s because this album is a lot more harder and darker than the previous ones?

Nero: Yeah maybe it’s a little too dark for comfort for some people. What I’ve been hearing on the road is that it took a week or two listening to it, and then they got it. There’s a lot of anger that came out of that album, and a lot of depression although I wouldn’t say I was depressed per se, but we all have our demons.

EE: Any plans on a follow up album?

Nero: I’m in writing mode now, but nothing as of yet. We are going to be releasing a remix album for Icon of the Adversary.  That Will be the next thing to drop.

EE: Have you heard from fans that the album INRI was their favorite album?

Nero: I’ve maybe heard that once or twice. That album didn’t do that great for us.

EE: That was one of my favorite albums. I loved the sound and the mix of hardcore drum and bass. Songs like Behind a Serrated Grin and Hymn to the Angels Descent, are my two favorite songs.

Nero: Yeah Crwn Thy Frnicatr was our breakout album and We The Fallen was the first album to hit the billboards. Those are the albums that got them into the band, That’s typically what most fans say.

EE: I was listening to that album on the way here, and it’s been a while since I’ve heard it and was just reminded how much I loved that album though. I loved the religious aspects of it.

Nero: Thanks Man. I grew up in a very religious community and obviously I had issues on the way the looked at life. I had to get it off my chest. I always say that my albums are therapy for me. The first few albums were very external where I was talking about what’s wrong in the world and the last few have been internal.

EE: What’s been your favorite song?

Nero: I could name quite a few. We the Fallen at the time meant a lot to me. Right now while everything is fresh to me, from the latest album would be Give up the Ghost and Last.

EE: With bands reuniting, who would you want to see?

Nero: That’s a tough one, are there bands that I care enough about (laughs) The only band that comes to mind is Death but Chuck Schuldiner is dead, so that’s not going to happen. Death was a huge inspiration for me finding my voice.

EE: Well usually after I ask that, I ask what musician would you want to bring back from the dead, so we can just use that as the answer for that one.

Nero: Who would you want to pick?

EE: As far as reuniting, I would say White Zombie, and musician would be either Freddie Mercury or Kurt Cobain.

Nero: I think Kurt Cobain would be making Trap music. (Laughs) he would take advantage of the technology of today. I feel that he had an experimental nature to him.

Psyclon Nine put on a hell of show. It was great to see Tim Sköld with the band, he added such a bad ass element to the band. Nero’s onstage performances are stuff of legends. The interaction between fans and the way he moves to the music, you can tell he enjoys what he does and enjoys entertaining the fans as well. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Psyclon Nine camp and hear the remix album. Hopefully they will be doing another tour around this way again.
