Interview with Nikki Misery of New Years Day
New Years Day have been exploding on the scene, releasing their 4th studio album Unbreakable on April 26th 2019. New Years Day is now on tour with In this Moment and Empire Extreme got to sit down and talk to Nikki Misery about the tour and the album.
EE: EE: How you doing today?
NM: I’m living the Dream here in rainy Baltimore.
EE: Hows the tour going so far with In This Moment?
NM: This tour has been amazing, the In This Moment camp, the band the crew have been the best. I do miss the HellzaPoppin guys, those guys are awesome to see every night.
EE: You guys just got done doing a few shows with Godsmack, how was that?
NM: That was so cool. It’s very surreal, some of these bands are names I heard when growing up, and here we are on tour with them and hanging out with them and having dinner with them. It’s so cool to see them so down to earth, and that they are just regular people just like me and you.
EE: Did you have a geeking out when you first met Sully?
NM: No it was very cool, I wanted to but I kept it pretty much inside.
EE: Yeah doing this gig, I’ve got to meet a bunch of amazing musicians that I grew up listening to, and sometimes it’s not hard to geek out.
Jay Oakley: I remember Tim Armstrong coming Into my work and sat in my section, and trying to keep calm.
NM: Crazy Story about Tim is that when I grew up in LA, during the riots, it was on all the of channels on Tv. It was taking over my cartoons. So I was switching into cable where the news wasn’t on and I remember seeing the video for Nihilism was on, and that was my first introduction to rock and roll and stuff like this. From then on I was hooked. Thank you Tim Armstrong for that.
EE: Yeah Thank you LA Riots for interrupting his cartoons and making him change the channel.
NM: Yes at the same time, thank you riots (laughs)
EE: Now That Unbreakable has been out for a little longer now, how’s the fan response been?
NM: They keep returning it, they don’t like us (laughs) No it’s been awesome. We made this album and they loved it, and it’s insane that People love it.
EE: You guys just released the music video for Come For Me. I love how it’s very Grindhouse, and all the Cameos in it.
NM: Yeah Ash said she wanted to do something that like a vampire strip club kinda like From Dusk TIL Dawn, and I was like I want to be like the Mariachi band. I’m truly smiling in that video.
EE: If you could put a song that NYD has done and put it in a time capsule and many years later it’s opened, what song would you want in it.
NM: Done With You, that’s my favorite song that we have ever done.
EE: So being close to Halloween, what’s your favorite horror movie that’s not a mainstream one?
NM: The Original Suspiria by Dario Argento. I love the whole psychedelic horror.
