Interview with Suicide Silence
Suicide Silence forcefully band brutally came into Baltimore Maryland on a mission. That mission was to kick some ass, and boy did they ever succeed.
Empire Extreme got to talk with guitarist Chris Garza after their powerful set for a few minutes outside in the pouring rain.
EE: How’s the tour going so far?
CG: The tour is going good! We’re almost half way done, it’s gone by so quick.
EE: How has the fan response been to the latest album which was self titled?
CG: It’s been what I’ve expected, love and hate. That’s what I want. Everyday since day 1 Of Suicide Silence it’s been “We don’t want people to hate or love us, we want to be in the middle”.
EE: What was it like recieving the Golden God Award?
CG: That day was fucking crazy. That was our first time meeting Jonathan Davis from Korn, my first time meeting anyone from Korn, so I was tripping. We were doing sound check and then I saw Jonatha. He was so nice to me. I asked for a picture and he was so cool. Alice In Chains presented us the award.
EE: If you could bring back one band to have a reunion, what band would you want to see?
CG: Nirvana. Kurt Cobain is my guy. His views of music and art, that’s what’s missing from metal now. He was putting out whatever he wanted. Everyone is so afraid of change and risk and sacrifice now.
EE: You had a new song on the setlist, are you working on a new record?
CG: Yeah. The new record is pretty much done and we’re all stoked. We are always writing.
Suicide Silence set was as hardcore and violent as you would expect. This was my first time seeing the band, but I have heard tales before and they are all true. One part that I’ve heard about in particular was how the band does their Wall of Death. The Wall of Death if you don’t know is when the fans on the floor split in half and when the band tells them to they all charge from one side to the other. It’s always a brutal mess. This show was super high energy and lots of pure metal. At one point Chris took his guitar off and threw it at the ground and speaker and at the end of the set decided he was tired of the drums and destroyed them too. Singer Alex Lopez lept into the crowd and crowd surfed while still performing. This was an awesome set and can’t wait to see Suicide Silence again.
