Interview with Tony Campos of Ministry
Ministry the band that most people love to hate, are rolling into town in Baltimore on April 23rd 2018 at RamsHead. Al Jourgensen and company are bringing with them giant inflatable, Nazi Trump chickens and other crazy antics for the masses. Having just released the latest album Amerikkkant, Ministry is still pushing boundaries and making people uncomfortable the only way Ministry know how. PURE CHAOS
Empire Extreme got to talk to bassist Tony Campos a few days prior to the stop in Baltimore.
Empire: How’s the tour going so far?
Tony: It’s been good man, it’s been a lot of fun.
Empire: Have you had any problems with Trump supporters or people against the Antifa?
Tony: No surprisingly. On the last tour we had at least once a week someone trying to knock down the trump chickens. So far nobody has tried that on this tour.
Empire: I figured since the release of Amerikkkant that there might be a backlash from all the Trump supporters.
Tony: Yeah, I don’t know if it would be a big surprise that Al doesn’t like Trump. If they didn’t know they know now (laughs).
Empire: How’s it been like working with Al?
Tony: It’s been great man. This last 3 to 4 years have been the most sober I have seen him. He more active onstage and a lot more fun to be around. It’s be awesome.
Empire: How was it like working with Wayne and doing Static X?
Tony: That was great, it was my formative years. We all started our careers together. For 14 years we had a blast and the last year it kind of fell apart, but the others were awesome.
Empire: What’s been your favorite tour you have done in your career?
Tony: ahhh I’ve done a lot of cool stuff. Touring with Ministry for the first time back in 2008 was great, doing Ozzfest in 1999 was an incredible experience, touring with Pantera and Slayer was great. I’ve been lucky to be able to do a lot of cool shit.
Empire: How’s the tour been with so many of you guys on the stage?
Tony: Yeah this is the biggest band lineup that I’ve ever been in. I’ve been in 4 piece Band a 3 piece, there is like 7 of us on stage. It can get a little crowded up there (laughs).
Empire: When Static X was done, did you think that your career could be over with having such huge success with that band before you got the call from Max from Soulfly?
Tony: Yeah, I had no idea what I was gonna do next. I was like fuck I might have to get a real job(laughs) but I was lucky things happened how they did and I got to work with some great people and keep my work going.
Empire: Anything else you like to add?
Tony: I think we covered it, just come out for the show and get your ass kicked listening to some Ministry tunes and have a good time.
If you want to go to the show in Baltimore on April 23rd buy your tickets here soon before they sell out and you miss Ministry and all the chaos they bring.
