Interview with Wednesday 13 at Hmac
Empire Extreme once again made its way back into the crypt to talk to the Duke Of Spook Wednesday 13 before the show at the Hmac in Harrisburg.
EE: Just wanted to say congrats on your daughter getting married a few months ago.
Wed13: yea, thank you.
EE: How’s the tour going so far?
Wed13: it’s going good. It’s great to be out. It’s been 2 years since we been out. It’s great to do an old school set instead of coming back out with the green paint and worms. People just want to hear music. It’s crazy it’s been 20 years. We play a song from almost every record and I talk to the audience. I went back to my old look. I wanted to revisit what I started off doing. Having 2 years off and hearing what the fans wanted and took that in from what I observed. I’ve always considered myself as the Beetlejuice of the music industry because I can be funny but I can also be scary. We also do a little tribute to Joey every night and do a few Muderdolls songs, nobody has really got to pay tribute to him and most people only know him from MurderDolls or Slipknot it’s good to go out and do it. Then the Grammys snubbed him.
EE: I was gonna talk to you about that.
Wed13: Joey wouldn’t care. When Slipknot got nominated the first time, Paul asked me if I wanted to go with him and I was like “doesn’t the band want to go with you” , and he was like “they don’t give a shit about that”.
EE: Do you have a funny story you like to share about Joey?
Wed13: That dude took me around the world. I learned so much about what to do and what not to do. It was the coolest thing working with him. When we working with each other making music it’s wasn’t like I’m with the guy who’s in a huge platinum band, it was just us as friends. I never realized he was that guy until you walked into a room for like a revolver thing and seen people like Dave Grohl and be like “hey Joey , oh man”. You felt cool with him. People just worshipped him.
EE: When you was making the setlist for this tour, what is hard and we’re there songs you were like nope not playing those?
Wed13: it’s still hard. I put together of like 30 songs. I told them we had 4 days of rehearsal. We had the set time as 2 hours and 15 minutes and I’m like we can’t do that every night so we cut it down some to about a 90 minute set.
EE: If you could tour with 2 active bands who would you go with?
Wed13: I prob going to say bands we have toured with before. Alice Cooper would be one. He’s my friend his band mates are my friends and are always super nice when we tour with them. I’ve played with a lot of people. I’ve never played with Twisted Sister but I’m friends with Dee. I became friends with Manson and Zombie, Zombie is another tour I love to go out with again. If Kiss wanted to take us out with them I wouldn’t be opposed to that. I never played with Kiss before, we are both playing Download but different days. We are on the same poster though.
EE: We have talked about movies before, here’s a lighting round for favorite movie in the series.
EE: Halloween?
Wed13: Halloween 2
EE: Friday the 13th?
Wed13: I would say 3-4 are my favorites. 6 is awesome too.
EE: Nightmare series?
Wed13: I loved all them before the got stupid, but the 1st one is my favorite.
EE: Universal Monsters?
Wed13: Creature has been one my favorites I love green monsters. I would say either him or Dracula, I Lugosi fan.
EE: Addams family or Munsters?
Wed13: Munsters
EE: Favorite Horror Remake?
Wed13: I’m not sure. I did like the chainsaw remake with R Lee Ermey.
Wednesday 13 put on a hell of a show. It was great to se them play live music again. The setlist and full show might have been one of my fav Wed13 shows ever, it just brought back so many emotions and feels. It was great to see the boys again. Roman, Troy, Jack and Daniel Fox on drums. My favorite songs of the night had to be “197666, Rambo, Nowhere” and of course ending the night with “I love to say Fuck”. I can’t wait for the new album to come out in October and to see the band once again.
