P.O.D. Portland Show Review
As I get to the venue, I am well I am straight nerves and scared as hell…. Let me explain something quick about this certain time and location. Today is the day that Chris 51 and his band of miscreants and minions are filming the third episode of Headbangers Live today and guess what… Not only did I get a front row ticket to the hottest new concept to hit the world since the birth of the electric guitar but I’m helping with the filming of this new show that will be loved by all metal head fans around the globe. Ill give you more details about that later but let us get back to the awesome day I had.
First off as we are chilling waiting for the busses to arrive you can’t help but get a bit giddy. Tonight, I have the pleasure no the honor to photograph P.O.D…. One of my favorite bands growing up. I remember blaring Youth of a Nation in my car, Alive, Satellite. But I’m getting off track, so the bus pulls up and its action time we start filming. As people start getting off the busses and stretching the first one we see off is Wuv the drummer from P.O.D.
I forgot to mention that we have an amazing hostess that goes by the name Scandalous, and ladies and gents she gets around. Not like that you idiots stop thinking like that. Sheesh what kind of article do you think I’m writing here? Let me rephrase that. She is very well known in the music industry and has interviewed some of the WORLDS TOP METAL ARTISTS.
But as the day progresses our hostess gets a sit down with Sonny Sandavol of P.O.D then with Rob Rivera and Elias Soriano from Nonpoint. Now its 7:00 and we are all set for a hell of a night. Nine Shrines got this Portland crown moving. Which brings me to my next introduction and to be honest fans this tour is perfect for this band ISLANDER! You totally have to check them out! you Seriously like do it now! Then NONPOINT you know for being around the block they still play like they are in their twenties and know how to motivate a crowd. Elias still has amazing vocals and he melted my brain. Having the time to chat with them was one of the highlights of my day. Plus I got to go record shopping with Rob.
So not its time for the Southern Cali’s Dons Of Southtown P.O.D. Thos again is my first time seeing them live and my ears will never be the same again, and believe me when I say that they sound just as good live as they do on the radio and on C.D. but fucking better! Holy Shit, Sonny has the chops to make you want to just jump and groove. I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon. All the love you feel from the crowd to the band playing harmoniously together and having fun on stage, it was like one block party. They kicked the set off with Soundboy Killa, Rockin with the best, that was just to get the crowd ready for BOOM! One of my personal favorites Southtown… just when we couldn’t take anymore on a Monday evening in Portland they ended the night with ALIVE what a fucking ending! I was so ready to jump through the fire with these guys. All Sonny had to do was ask. Tonight will definitely be etched in my memory forever. So we all exit out the stage door and record the bands coming out all sweaty and their hearts pumping and adrenaline flowing, and smiles on everyone’s faces as a job finished and another show well done. So what’s next you ask? Me I just wanted to pass out where I stood. I was so tired but I was so excited that I was not only doing what I love the most, being at a venue watching and photographing my favorite bands but I was apart of METAL HISTORY! That alone is worth more than anything I have accomplished in my life, and better than any drug. Metal is my drug of choice.
Whew, what an amazing day of hanging out with P.O.D. and Nonpoint. Mikey when I do get my interview and we sit down face to face dinner is on me my friend. But I would like to take this time and explain some things. Today I took part in metal history, I was helping film the first ever Metal reality television show. Do you ever wonder what the day to day things that some of our favorite artists deal with daily? I mean they are real people like you and I, but sometimes we as fans don’t understand the other side of the coin. This amazing concept can only be dreamed up by a mad man or someone that has the CAHONES to show the world what it really takes to put on a killer metal show. Chris 51, you are a true visionary of our time, you know metal, and we need more ambassadors like you to show the masses the way of ROCK N ROLL! Ticker, my fucking ninja! You my friend are amazing you have an eye for cinematography that people have lost sight of, and this idea that you guys have going will take off. I hope I get to work along side you again. Scandalous, what can I say you’re a treat, you know more Rockstar’s than Facebook. If you ever need help covering anything it will be amazing to work with you again as well. These three amazing people are doing something this world needs, MORE METAL IN OUR LIVES! I also can not forget my other ninjas that helped us out from Twizted Images Cinematography. Steve the boom mic guy, Mark my other photographer in arms Heather Tickers Side kick and fiancé and one hell of a camera woman, and of course Heather V. of against the grain photography. So there you have it guys please remember to
Keep it Real Keep it Cool
Keep it METAL!!

Society 1 Takes On Second Lock-down Challenge
Sammy Hagar and his CIRCLE band mates are using the Coronavirus downtime to release new music and video calling it the “Lockdown Challenge” which developed quickly into the “Lockdown Sessions”. The four musicians connected via their smartphones from four separate locations to record a brand new song and covers.
Upon seeing Hagar’s continued output of material Society 1 frontman Matt Zane was fascinated by this new but hopefully temporary medium of music and video creation. Zane’s band mates Jimmy Minj (Bass), Johnny Pilz (Guitar) and Zhenya Pro (Drums) were once again on board and went to work.
“When else are you going to have chance to create in this way in these circumstances? Why not go for it, get creative and see what happens?” said Zane
Zane and his band members once again worked on ideas sharing them through video conferencing ultimately crafting a new song called “I Reach Through”.
“No studio, 100% recorded from home. No producer. We just gathered some unfinished ideas that were around, bounced some new ideas off each other and just did it. It’s so immediate from start to finish. Definitely a unique change of pace. “
