Tesla and Styx JiffyLube Live Show Review
You’re fooling yourself if you don’t believe that Styx is the greatest band ever.
Styx is on tour with fellow rockers, Tesla and Joan Jett and the Heartbreakers. Making a pit stop in Bristow Virginia at JiffLube Live.
Tesla opened the night off, and what a way to start a night of great music. I’ve never seen Tesla before but have been listening to them for years. Vocalist Jeff Keith can still hit all those notes and moves around the stage like a possessed frontman. Frank Hannon is a god on the guitar, just shredding note after note and looking cool as can be while doing it. Tesla played about 8 songs including some of my favorite songs from them like, I Wanna Live, What you Give and ending the set with Modern Day Cowboy. I was impressed with how well the band still cranks those killer tunes. I can’t wait to get to watch them again.
Styx were the Headliners tonight and there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that they shouldn’t ever be. Styx is one of my favorite bands and I have seen them multiple times and never once have I been disappointed. This band has it all, great songs, major hits, fun and energetic players and just one of the best entertaining shows of all time.
Styx is just a band that just delivers and that because all the members of this band are top notch musicians. James JY Young is not only a great guitarist but just so much fun on stage, he plays with the crowd so perfectly. Tommy Shaw still makes all the ladies heart pump with his golden hair and that angelic voice. Todd Sucherman on drums is what all drummers should idolize, just a class act that not only keeps up with the other musicians but exceeds even more. Lawrence Gowan on the Keys and Vocals. Spinning his keyboard around and hitting the high notes, he may not have been the original voice of Styx but damn is he ohh so good. The man is crazy and runs all over the place, so much energy and showmanship. Ricky Phillips on bass, just keeps the band moving to those realms of entertaining gods. And who can’t forget the original and founding father of Styx Chuck Panozzo on bass came out and did a few songs with the band.
Like I said earlier hit songs after hit songs. Fan Favorites like Blue Collar Man, Lady, Come Sail Away, Miss America, Fooling Yourself, Too much Time on my Hands and of course Renegade. We also got to hear a little rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody from Lawrence. But what would have to be the highlight of the night was a song that has been a Styx lore that many who have seen Styx before may have never got the chance to see. Yes I’m talking about the one and only Mr Roboto. When this song started I felt like a little kid again, I was super young when this song came out and it’s always been my favorite song from Styx and just in general.
Just like in the song he wanted to thank Mr. Roboto for helping him, I want to thank Styx for putting one hell of a memorable show. This by far was best Styx Show I’ve ever seen. I’m so glad to have been a part of it and can’t wait for Styx to come back again and again and may they never stop.

Society 1 Takes On Second Lock-down Challenge
Sammy Hagar and his CIRCLE band mates are using the Coronavirus downtime to release new music and video calling it the “Lockdown Challenge” which developed quickly into the “Lockdown Sessions”. The four musicians connected via their smartphones from four separate locations to record a brand new song and covers.
Upon seeing Hagar’s continued output of material Society 1 frontman Matt Zane was fascinated by this new but hopefully temporary medium of music and video creation. Zane’s band mates Jimmy Minj (Bass), Johnny Pilz (Guitar) and Zhenya Pro (Drums) were once again on board and went to work.
“When else are you going to have chance to create in this way in these circumstances? Why not go for it, get creative and see what happens?” said Zane
Zane and his band members once again worked on ideas sharing them through video conferencing ultimately crafting a new song called “I Reach Through”.
“No studio, 100% recorded from home. No producer. We just gathered some unfinished ideas that were around, bounced some new ideas off each other and just did it. It’s so immediate from start to finish. Definitely a unique change of pace. “
