The Birthday Massacre/Julien K Baltimore Show Review
Tonight in Boston….Baltimore fans got a treat.
The Birthday Massacre came into town with Julien K and local opening band Night’s Edge.
Night’s Edge opened up the show and with them they brought the house down. With themselves covered in multitudes of Florescent paint, Nights Edge brings the show. Opening up with a cover of “Cry Little Sister” Nights Edge set the night off with a bang.
Julien K led by Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (Former Orgy members) always brings the show. With Galen Wailing on the drums this trio rocks the house and brings such an energy to the stage. With only 4 shows left of the tour, Ryan was a little under the weather but still put out 150% show with dance moves, running around the stage and singing his ass off. Opening up with “Harmonic Disruptor” Julien K gets right into it straight from the gate. With songs like “Shut Down Your Soul” and “Stronger Without You”, Julien K brings the rock to the goth/industrial scene. You can tell that this trio really enjoy playing on stage with each other and giving all they have to the fans. Ending their set with a homage to the band that put them on the Map, Orgy. Julien K ended with “Blue Monday”. I have been a huge fan of Ryan and Amir for a while now, and those two are truly some amazing people, they treat the fans how the should be treated without the rockstar better than you attitude.
The Birthday Massacre came on next. This was my first time seeing the band live, although I have been a fan for a while now. Their blend of goth/Synth/rock pop is always an amazing blend. Singer “Chibi” is a powerhouse front woman and such an awesome human to watch interact on stage with not only her band mates but the fans. On the keys and the amazing Keytar was Owen Mackinder who along with Chibi stole the show, you couldn’t keep your eyes off of either one of them. Opening up with “Superstition” and “Destroyer” off the “Superstition Album” gave the fans exactly what they wanted from The Birthday Massacre. The band played a good long set with about 16 songs or so, playing a good mix off all the albums. They even Played a few off the new album “Fascination” which came out in February this year.
I was blown away with the set and the band. This was a really amazing tour package with them and Julien K. I know that Julien K will be going back on tour in September and hoping that Birthday Massacre tour again very soon.

DEVILSKIN “Barracuda”
Anyone who knows me, knows I have a huge soft spot for the band “Heart”. Of course Barracuda is an amazing song and has been covered by other artists before and when it comes to those covers I’m very critical to the vocals, nobody can touch Ann Wilson’s vocals on that track but I always love to hear a great cover.
New Zealand’s DevilSkin cover is one of those that I feel is a top tier cover. Vocalist JENNIE SKULANDER has an amazing voice and I feel that it works very well to this song. I love the heavy ending to the song, it gave it that heavy edge to it that most covers of the song don’t have.
If you’re a fan of the song, I would highly recommend checking out the video and giving this cover a listen.

Collective Soul “7EVEN YEAR ITCH” Greatest Hits 1994-2001 Vinyl
I’ve always been a big fan of Collective Soul and have been lucky to have seen them a few times. This band has always been in my music mixes since the 1990s.
The vinyl release is exactly what you would want for a greatest-hits album. All the best songs that collective soul had from 1994–2001 If you were a teenager or an adult in the 90s, you can’t tell me that you didn’t jam out to songs like “Shine,” “Gel,” and “December.”
With other great songs like “Heavy,” “Run,” “The World I Know,” and “Forgiveness,” This greatest hit album sounds amazing on vinyl as well. Craft Recordings has done a really great job of keeping the magic and sound of these amazing songs.
The sleeve cover has some cool photos of the band throughout the years. This vinyl just came out in Collective Soul fashion in December, and is ready to be part of your vinyl collection, and just brings you back to a great time in life.

Otep – Hydra 10th Anniversary Vinyl
I received a copy of the album, and when I first opened it, the artwork struck me first. Otep has always been a great visual artist, with her amazing drawings and characters. I even have one of them tattooed on myself. When you see the artwork on this vinyl release, you will really be drawn in and appreciate the artistry.
The sound of this vinyl is amazing. It’s been years since I’ve listened to anything on vinyl and forgot how much I loved the sound of the medium compared to CDs and digital releases. I love the songs on this album because, as with all Otep albums, it has such raw power and emotions, mixed with the anger and beauty of Otep’s poetry. Otep is one of the greats.
The album starts off with the track “Rising,” and this initial song sets the tone for what you’re about to hear from the balance of the album. The standout tracks on this album have to be “Necromantic,” “Apex Predator,” “Voyeur,” and “Feral Game.” Over all, the album as a complete piece of art is amazing. I would encourage you, if you’re a fan of Otep or a collector of vinyl, to add this vinyl to your collection.
